| Think of a vast, luminous expanse: radiant, clear, fresh, full of joy, peace and
sheer contentment. Completely free of obscuration, struggle, anxiety, fear, jealousy and
hatred. Within this vast expanse, perfect forms, colors, sounds, perfumes, textures, tastes and utterly pure feelings arise. This is the nature of mind; your mind, your friends mind, your lovers mind, your neighbors mind, your enemys mind, every mind. This is the natural state, your original nature, your face before you were born and your heritage. This is what is. Its where you are right now and you can attain it whenever you want. You are it. Rest. Out of this wonderful freedom, this complete contentment, this vast, radiant display, doubt was born. A loss of confidence arose, perplexity, defensiveness and a myriad of ills. Anger arose, greed, jealousy, vanity, impatience, intolerance and clouds of other poisons arose to rob you of your peace, contentment and joy; to distract you from your heritage, this pure, radiant jewel, the nature of mind -- your brilliant heart essence -- the love of your life. And it is nobodys fault, it is just a mistake, an error of judgement. The brilliant radiance shines on, under the clouds, always present, always available. Rest. And this perfect radiance depends upon nothing; it is deathless, without birth -- yet giving birth -- immaculate, incorruptible, and stainless. It is the unconditioned nature of existence. It is your nature. And yet, all of the myriad objects of the universe depend upon this luminance, interdependent with each other and your own discriminating mind. Within this unconditioned nature, notions of matter, energy, space and time arise, creating a vast network of evanescent, interdependent relationships. Matter depends upon energy; to push it through space, within a period of time, as measured by an observer, within a mental system that divides this luminous space into mass, energy, space and time. All these things are interdependent with one another and the ground luminosity that depends upon nothing. And this ground luminosity is all pervasive, it exists everywhere, it permeates all things and all times. It is completely outside time and space. It is timeless, and it is eternal. You are experiencing it right now. Rest. When you lose confidence in your original nature, luminous space; when doubts arise; you try to grasp at some solidity, some refuge, some sanctuary. As a result of this grasping, panic attacks you, enemies threaten you, and death becomes your master. Onto this luminous ground you project myriad images of permanence, of sanctuary, and safe havens. You build houses, erect monuments, and create memorials and testaments. You distract yourselves from your uncertainty with entertainments, with occupations and with career choices. You forget. You lose sight of your original nature, your original purity, the great, majestic, luminous display of your diamond like awareness. Your primordial, pure presence is covered with clouds of bewilderment. On your next breath, you could dissolve back into your nature, your original purity, complete peace and contentment. You are contentment. Rest. |
